14 advisers of Interim government sworn in

14 of the 17 advisors of the interim government were sworn in by the President Md. Sahabuddin. On Thursday night at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban, at first, Dr. Muhammad Yunus took oath as the chief advisor of the interim government.

Then the names of 16 Advisory Councilors were announced. Former Bangladesh Bank Governor Saleh Uddin Ahmed, Professor of Law Department of Dhaka University Dr. Asif Nazrul, Human Rights Activist Adilur Rahman Khan, Former Attorney General Hasan Arif, Former Ambassador Tauhid Hossain, Chief Executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) and Supreme Court Lawyer Syeda Rezwana Hasan, Aspiring Chief Executive Officer Sharmin Murshid, Former Caretaker Government Advisor Brig. (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, former Naib Amir of Hefazate Islam A.F. Khalid Hasan, Executive Director of Research on Development Alternatives (UBINIG) Farida Akhtar, former Acting Managing Director of Grameen Bank Nurjahan Begum and Coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Md. Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud took the oath.

Beer Prateek Farooqui Azam, chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board and former ambassador Supradeep Chakma, Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy did not take oath as they were out of Dhaka.

The program was conducted by Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbubur Rahman.

Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association, an organization working on consumer rights, welcomed the interim government formed under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad Yunus. In a statement sent to the media, the president of the organization, Mohiuddin Ahmed, said, we welcome and wish luck to the interim government on behalf of all the telecommunication and internet customers of the country. We hope the caretaker government will do their duty properly and try to restore the rights of the disenfranchised consumers and will reshape the institutions like Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Ministry of ICT, BTRC, BTCL, DOT, and so on.

We hope they will reorganize all state service institutions and make those free from corruption. Also ensure accountability of all institutions. Necessary measures will be taken to stop corruption, nepotism, project looting, irregularities and arbitrariness in all these institutions. Private and foreign investors will hold operators accountable and restore consumer rights.
